It is very important to clean and maintain your Keurig brewer on a regular basis. This will prolong the life of your unit and supply you with the best tasting Kcup coffee day after day (or hour after hour if you are anything like me!). How do you choose the right Kcup and brew it properly? Are Kcups Kosher? Are Organic Kcups available? Each week we will be educating you on best practices for Keurig brewer care and Kcup brewing.
This weeks installment of Keurig 101 is…Fair Trade Kcups.
What is Fair Trade?
Fair Trade products are exactly what they say they are – FAIR. Goods that are certified Fair Trade and bear the FT logo come from villages that are thriving because their farmers are compensated well and utilize high quality farming practices. In the end, the benefit of Fair Trade is yours, the consumer. Better farming equals a better product. Fair Trade is a non-profit agency but, it is not a charity instead they teach disadvantaged communities how to use the free market to make a change and improve their lives for generations to come.
With Fair Trade the money you spend can and will help improve the lives of not only farmers and their families, but, you will be helping the entire community creating a cyclical process of constant improvement.
Farmers participating are required to use earth friendly practices in their planting and harvesting. I want to make one important distinction however, Fair Trade does not mean organic. Those are two separate certifications however, there are plenty of products on the market that are both Fair Trade and Organic such as Newman’s Own Special Blend Extra Bold Kcups.
We have several Fair Trade certified Kcups in our line up. Our most popular is Colombian Fair Trade Select Kcups. This is a staple in anyones Kcup collection.
Green Mountain coffee is adamant about supporting this organization. Their coffee experts travel to the villages to see first hand how the power of Fair Trade has helped improve the lives of so many. We are proud to know that we are partnered with a mindful, environmentally conscious company that we can trust to treat others well and produce a superior product at the same time!
Lets take a look at a short video created by Fair Trade USA to help explain a little about what Fair Trade is:
