If you have been around awhile you have come to know (and hopefully love) our Monday K-cup coffee recipes. I love fun, easy to make coffee drinks. They are a simple indulgence that can usually be made with ingredients already in your kitchen. There will be no running to the local coffee shop around here, no sir, we have Keurig’s in our kitchen that make these recipes easy peasy.
Up this week…a two for one deal- all natural Keurig Kcup cafe mocha AND hot cocoa!
One of my New Years resolutions was to eat real foods and to cook with all natural ingredients. No chemicals, no fake food, no anything I cant pronounce. Since then, I have been on a mission to make an all natural, yet delicious hot cocoa recipe. I wanted it thick, I wanted it rich and I wanted it full of delicious chocolatyness : ) After several mediocre attempts I went back to the cupboard to re-examine my ingredients and there I saw it, an angel sent from heaven- sweetened condensed milk.
Ladies and gentlemen I present to you the most amazing hot cocoa recipe ever. But wait there’s more, you get a two for one deal this week, I added Keurig Kcup coffee to turn it into a Cafe Mocha to die for. If you prefer good ol’ fashioned hot cocoa simply leave out the coffee and add one extra cup of water.
You will need:
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 t pure vanilla extract
pinch of salt
4-5 cups of water
Combine the sweetened condensed milk, cocoa powder, salt and vanilla in a saucepan on the stovetop. Stir over medium heat until all of the dry ingredients are incorporated. You should see a rich chocolate brown color.
Next, slowly stir in the water. If you are making Keurig Kcup cafe mocha add 4-5 cups, if you are making hot cocoa add 5-6 cups (depending how rich you would like it). The color will start to lighten up and you will see some small bubbles but, do not let it boil. Stir and simmer on medium heat for approximately 4 minutes.
Fill a very large mug about half way with the all natural hot cocoa. Brew your choice of Keurig Kcup coffee directly into the same mug using the lowest water setting of your brewer (make sure you have enough room in the mug!).
Top with whipped cream (homemade with heavy whipping cream of course to stick with our all natural theme!). Garnish with cinnamon and viola…
A beautiful, unbelievably delicious, all natural Keurig Kcup cafe mocha (or hot cocoa)! This is one of those recipes that I could not wait to share. I promise you will fall in love, I would even be willing to say this is way better than any coffee house mocha I have ever had! The best part is I made this entire batch for about $2.00!
You can save the hot cocoa in the fridge for up to 5 days to make yourself an indulgent mocha treat everyday- why not, you only live once : )
