Back by popular demand- Friday Kcup reviews! Every Friday at Cross Country Cafe we host a flavor review. Let’s face it the selection of K-cups we have to choose from is huge, how do you pick the right one? Who wants to buy an entire box and not like it?! Our goal is to describe how the coffee or tea tastes in simple layman’s terms so that you can determine if it suits your preferences. Let’s get to the review, up this week…Twinings African Rooibos Red Tea.
African Rooibis is a caffeine free red tea brought to us by the ultimate authority on tea- Twinings of London.
We have all heard of and probably tasted black tea. One of the most popular teas, hot or cold, is green. But, red tea?! I dont know about you but this was a new concept to me until recent years.
The growing popularity of red tea can be attributed to its extreme health benefits. Move over green tea, red is chock full of antioxidants among a gazillion other nutrients that are great for our skin, hearts and all over health. To read further about the medicinal properties of red tea click here.
Rooibos originates in South Africa and literally translates as red bush. I was curious to find out if the tea was actually red so I dissected my Kcup:
Just as suspected, it is red! The smell of the tea is sweet and light, will that translate into the taste?
The first sip was light and crisp, followed by a very pleasant sweet taste with hints of citrus. This tea is very easy to drink and even hot left me feeling refreshed. This left me to wonder how it would taste iced… my guess is it would make an amazing iced tea- sounds like a future experiment to me!
Red is the new green! Its better for you, better tasting (in my humble opinion) and naturally caffeine free. I think that African Roibos has amazing potential to take the tea world by storm and I would not be surprised at all to see it become a cold bottled variety readily available in grocery stores. For now, it is our little secret!
