Keurig Kcup Coffee Review- Newman’s Special Blend

Back by popular demand- Friday Kcup reviews! Every Friday at Cross Country Cafe we host a flavor review.  Let’s face it the selection of K-cups we have to choose from is huge,  how do you pick the right one?  Who wants to buy an entire box and not like it?! Our goal is to describe how the coffee or tea tastes in simple layman’s terms so that you can determine if it suits your preferences. Let’s get to the review, up this week…Newman’s Own Special Blend.

Newman's Special Blend Keurig Kcup coffee

Newman’s Special Blend is a medium roast, extra bold Keurig Kcup coffee brought to us by the authority on organic foods…Newman’s Own. In addition to being organic this coffee is also Fair Trade certified.

I chose to review Special Blend this week for purely selfish reasons. My latest quest in self improvement is to introduce organic products into our household. Let me start from the beginning.  I have had an inner turmoil for years regarding the source, ingredients and processes involved in creating my food and beverage choices.

By inner turmoil I mean, I am cheap.

There are no if’s, and’s or but’s about it, organic goods are much more expensive than “regular” items. But, lately I have been thinking isn’t the health of the environment, myself and my family worth a few extra bucks? That is a conversation for a different day because, good news…Newman’s Special Blend is priced the same as it’s main stream counterparts! This left  me with high hopes of adding an organic coffee to my repertoire.

I chose to brew this Kcup on the highest water setting of my Keurig.  Being an extra bold coffee, I felt that it would be able to hold up well to the higher amount of water.

The result was a really nice, dark coffee with no translucency just begging for a dash of cream!

As you would guess from the beautiful appearance of this coffee, the body is smooth and creamy. There is a bit of a tangy taste with the first sip that finishes nicely on the back the tongue adding an interesting dimension.  Earthy is a term that comes to mind.  Despite being a medium roast, there is a slight hint of the famous burnt taste associated with a darker roast…but, just a hint, not enough to turn a medium roast drinker away. Newman’s is a heavy, satisfying coffee.

Little do you know,  you have probably enjoyed a cup or two of this roast without even realizing it.  Newman’s is the exclusive coffee supplier of all Mcdonald’s restaurants!

I would highly recommend this organic Kcup coffee to medium and dark roast drinkers. If light roast and flavored coffees are your preference, this is probably not the one for you.

P.S. Brew this over ice for a Mcdonalds iced coffee at home!

  1. Recently order a large qty (31 boxes) of coffee pods. Great price and quick shipping. My only complaint was that the 31 boxes were thrown into a box way to big with no additional packing and many boxes opened up during shipment. Now I appreciated everything but seriously, with just a little more care I wouldn’t have had to pick up 70 or so individual packets that had fallen out.

    • Thank you so much for the input, we really do value the opportunity to do it better next time. If no one speaks up, we never know what is or is not working. And holy cow thank you so much for the huge order!! Was any of the coffee damaged (unusable)?

      • Thank you for responding. Coffee was fine and am very happy with
my order. Looking forward to doing business with you in the future.
