Keurig Kcup Coffee Review- Caribou Daybreak Morning Blend

Back by popular demand- Friday Kcup reviews! Every Friday at Cross Country Cafe we host a flavor review.  Let’s face it the selection of K-cups we have to choose from is huge,  how do you pick the right one?  Who wants to buy an entire box and not like it?! Our goal is to describe how the coffee or tea tastes in simple layman’s terms so that you can determine if it suits your preferences. Let’s get to the review, up this week…Caribou Daybreak Morning Blend.

Daybreak Morning Blend Blend Keurig Kcup coffee

Daybreak Morning Blend is a light roast Keurig Kcup coffee brought to us by the experts at Caribou.  Yep thats right, you can enjoy the famous coffee shop best right in your own home.  This is great news for Caribou patrons in my area, unfortunately, several locations have closed.  But, never fear Caribou Keurig Kcups are here!

Caribou Daybreak Morning Blend K-cups are made with a lightly roasted blend of Costa Rican, Guatemalan, Colombian, and just a hint of Ethiopian beans.

This is a  Rainforest Alliance certified coffee. Rainforest Alliance is an amazing organization that makes a positive difference in source farming, the rainforest and tourism through the power of the consumer. Choosing a product with Rainforest Certification ensures sustainability with product origins and practices as well as higher standard of living in those areas. I love products with a purpose and this Keurig Kcup is just one small step towards the hefty goals of the RFA but, every small step counts!

I brewed my Caribou Daybreak Morning Blend on the middle setting of my Keurig brewer.  Generally, with a light roast Kcup coffee I would choose the lowest water setting but, the Caribou coffee have a fairly heavy body, I knew it could stand up to a little extra water.

It is slightly difficult to see in this photo but, there was some translucency in the cup.  Good news for the light roast drinkers out there!

The smell and taste are very reminiscent of Green Mountain Breakfast Blend with a bit more depth and body.  GM Breakfast Blend has been described as watery by some, for those that agree, this is a great alternative.

The word woodsy comes to mind when I drink this coffee. It has a surprising amount of character and a pleasant lingering, nutty flavor.

I would highly recommend this to light and medium roast lovers.  If dark roast and flavored coffees are your favorite, this is not the Kcup for you.

Keurig Kcup Review- Sweet Raspberry Iced Tea

Back by popular demand- Friday Kcup reviews! Every Friday at Cross Country Cafe we host a flavor review.  Let’s face it the selection of K-cups we have to choose from is huge,  how do you pick the right one?  Who wants to buy an entire box and not like it?! Our goal is to describe how the coffee or tea tastes in simple layman’s terms so that you can determine if it suits your preferences. Let’s get to the review, up this week…Celestial Seasonings Sweet Raspberry Iced Tea.

Sweet Raspberry Black Tea Brew Over Ice Keurig Kcups

Sweet Raspberry Black tea is a Brew Over Ice Keurig Kcup brought to us by Celestial Seasonings.

So many new Brew Over Ice Kcup varieties, such  little time…it has my head spinning.  I am madly in love with the Snapple Peach Tea and Green Mountain Lemonade but, there is always room for raspberry!

As always I brewed my Sweet Raspberry Black Tea on the lowest water setting of my Keurig.  There was already a slight hint of raspberry in the air but, I was also pleased to find that the aroma of black tea was  prevalent.  My fear with flavored teas and coffees is that the flavor takes over. So far that is not the case with this iced tea.

The appearance was perfect, not too light, not too dark.  Just perfectly in the middle. I headed to a water side dock to sit and enjoy my first sip in the sun…as it should be!

Raspberry Brew Over Ice Keurig Kcup tea

Raspberry Black tea is definitely sweet but, it is not overdone.  The overriding taste is deliciously refreshing iced black tea. It is reminiscent of unassuming Southern Sweet tea but rather than lemon it is enhanced with raspberry flavor.

At a mere 50 calories this makes a great treat on a summer afternoon.  In addition, Celestial Seasonings chose to use stevia (an all natural sugar substitute) rather than aspartame.

If you enjoy the taste of tea and prefer just a dab of sweetness in your beverages this is a perfect Kcup iced tea for you!

P.S. Out of simple curiosity I attempted to brew this Kcup hot, raspberry tea sounds pretty darn good, right?  Wrong.  It was not good…dont try it!

Keurig Kcup Coffee Review- Newman’s Special Blend

Back by popular demand- Friday Kcup reviews! Every Friday at Cross Country Cafe we host a flavor review.  Let’s face it the selection of K-cups we have to choose from is huge,  how do you pick the right one?  Who wants to buy an entire box and not like it?! Our goal is to describe how the coffee or tea tastes in simple layman’s terms so that you can determine if it suits your preferences. Let’s get to the review, up this week…Newman’s Own Special Blend.

Newman's Special Blend Keurig Kcup coffee

Newman’s Special Blend is a medium roast, extra bold Keurig Kcup coffee brought to us by the authority on organic foods…Newman’s Own. In addition to being organic this coffee is also Fair Trade certified.

I chose to review Special Blend this week for purely selfish reasons. My latest quest in self improvement is to introduce organic products into our household. Let me start from the beginning.  I have had an inner turmoil for years regarding the source, ingredients and processes involved in creating my food and beverage choices.

By inner turmoil I mean, I am cheap.

There are no if’s, and’s or but’s about it, organic goods are much more expensive than “regular” items. But, lately I have been thinking isn’t the health of the environment, myself and my family worth a few extra bucks? That is a conversation for a different day because, good news…Newman’s Special Blend is priced the same as it’s main stream counterparts! This left  me with high hopes of adding an organic coffee to my repertoire.

I chose to brew this Kcup on the highest water setting of my Keurig.  Being an extra bold coffee, I felt that it would be able to hold up well to the higher amount of water.

The result was a really nice, dark coffee with no translucency just begging for a dash of cream!

Newman's Special Blend extra bold, medium roast Keurig Kcup coffee

As you would guess from the beautiful appearance of this coffee, the body is smooth and creamy. There is a bit of a tangy taste with the first sip that finishes nicely on the back the tongue adding an interesting dimension.  Earthy is a term that comes to mind.  Despite being a medium roast, there is a slight hint of the famous burnt taste associated with a darker roast…but, just a hint, not enough to turn a medium roast drinker away. Newman’s is a heavy, satisfying coffee.

Little do you know,  you have probably enjoyed a cup or two of this roast without even realizing it.  Newman’s is the exclusive coffee supplier of all Mcdonald’s restaurants!

I would highly recommend this organic Kcup coffee to medium and dark roast drinkers. If light roast and flavored coffees are your preference, this is probably not the one for you.

P.S. Brew this over ice for a Mcdonalds iced coffee at home!

Keurig Kcup Review- Lemonade

Back by popular demand- Friday Kcup reviews! Every Friday at Cross Country Cafe we host a flavor review.  Let’s face it the selection of K-cups we have to choose from is huge,  how do you pick the right one?  Who wants to buy an entire box and not like it?! Our goal is to describe how the coffee or tea tastes in simple layman’s terms so that you can determine if it suits your preferences. Let’s get to the review, up this week…Green Mountain Naturals Brew Over Ice Lemonade.

Green Mountain Naturals Brew Over Ice LemonadeWhat is better that an ice-cold glass of lemonade on a hot day?  I will tell you what is, an ice-cold glass of lemonade brewed in under 1 minute with no mess, no clean up, no squeezing lemons!

Lemonade is a Brew Over Ice Keurig Kcup brought to us by Green Mountain Naturals, a division of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. Lemonade Kcups contain no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives! Sweetened with nothing but good old-fashioned lemons and sugar.  Take a look at the ingredients:

Sugar, Lemon Juice Powder (Citric Acid, Sugar, Lemon Oil, Lemon Juice Solids, Ascorbic Acid), Citric Acid, Reb A (Stevia Extract), Natural Flavor, Lemon Peel Powder, Lemon Fruit Powder

Yay, I can pronounce them all!

This is a Brew Over Ice Kcup which means just that, you brew it directly over ice. I filled a large glass (you should use plastic) with ice and headed to my Keurig. As always when brewing over ice, I used the lowest water setting of my unit.

I was surprised at the color of the lemonade, it was not the typical whitish, cloudy look that you would expect, it was much more clear.  I would attribute that to the lack of artificial coloring and that definitely pleases me.

The first sip was cold, refreshing and delicious but, the lemon taste was a bit week to me so I tried again with a little less ice and that did the trick.  Brew Over Ice lemonade tastes perfectly balanced, just the right amount of bitter balanced with a touch of sweet.  A perfect beverage to serve to guests or to refresh after yard work!  If you want to take it up a notch like I did, rim the glass with sugar, add some blueberries and garnish with a sprig of mint and viola:

You have an impressive looking, unbelievably delicious treat in minutes!

P.S. Lemonade Kcups do contain sugar, for this reason it is always a good idea to run a water only cycle through your Keurig after brewing Lemonade.  The same applies to any of the sweetened Brew Over Ice Teas, Apple Cider and Vitamin Bursts.

Keurig Kcup Coffee Review- Donut Shop Sweet and Creamy

Let’s get to the review, up this week…Donut Shop Sweet and Creamy iced Kcup coffee.

Donut Shop Sweet and Creamy Iced Keurig Kcup Coffee

Donut Shop Sweet and Creamy is a medium roast, brew over ice coffee brought to us by Coffee People (a subsidiary of Gloria Jeans).

Tell me this coffee is not intriguing?! Donut Shop is already a great roast but, now the creative geniuses at Coffee People have decided to toss in a little cream and sugar to make a ready to drink iced coffee with your Keurig? I think I have died and gone to heaven!

That’s right, the cream and sugar is already in that magical little cup.  My expectation was a similar taste to Dunkin Donuts iced coffee, lets see if I am right…

I brewed my Donut Shop Sweet and Creamy directly over ice on the lowest water setting of my Keurig.

Donut Shop Sweet and Creamy Iced coffee being brewed in Keurig

*Note: when brewing over ice you should use a plastic cup, I just happen to have a particularly thick glass that seems to work ok but, dont  risk it-use plastic!

You can see by the color that the cream is well-integrated into the coffee already. The brew cycle finished and I was sipping iced cold Sweet and Creamy coffee in under a minute- pretty darn cool!

I was dead on, the taste was very similar to Dunkin Donuts iced coffee, actually it tasted exactly like it.  The amount of cream was perfect for me but, I honestly could have done without the sugar.  I don’t generally add sugar to my coffee, warm or cold.  It was not overly done by any means I simply prefer unsweetened coffee and tea.

This Kcup coffee is FULL of flavor. It amazed me that so much rich coffee flavor, cream and sugar can come out of such a tiny package. I was dying to know what exactly was on the inside of the Kcup.  So a dissecting I go…

Inside Donut Shop Sweet and Creamy Iced Keurig Kcup

Nothin’ too exciting, I guess as creamy Kcup coffees go, this is exactly what you would expect to find on the inside!

The consistency of the coffee was a bit light for me, next time around I plan to use a little less ice to keep a darker body.

All in all this is really a delicious treat and with only 80 calories, it is guilt free!

Island Coconut Keurig Kcup coffee

Island Coconut is a flavored, light roast coffee brought to us by the ultimate Kcup authorities, Green Mountain. In addition to being a seasonal limited edition Kcup coffee, this baby is Fair Trade certified.

As many of you know Green Mountain likes to tease us with a few of their best flavors at certain times of the year.  Island Coconut is only available in the summer months, leaving us wanting more every fall.

I was apprehensive about this coffee because it is a light roast and although there was quite a bit of translucency in the mug, it was far darker than I expected.

From the second I hit brew a very strong smell of coconut was in the air.  As well as with the first sip.  This is one of those flavored coffees that is a bit more about the flavor than the coffee- perfect for those of you looking for a delicious afternoon treat!

I added a dash of cream thinking that milk would enhance the taste of the coconut even more and I was right on the money!

If you are a lover of flavored coffee this is a dream come true for you.  I would also recommend this coffee to light roast drinkers.  I am on the fence when it come to fans of a medium roast coffee- this may or may not work for you.  All of my dark roast people, this is not the Kcup for you.

Have you tried any of the Green Mountain seasonal coffees?  Which is your favorite?
